I have a new favor for all of you. Keeping track of all your numbers requires a lot of work and time on my part (I know, I signed up for it) but now I would like you to keep track of your own POINTS. Please email your TOTAL POINTAGE , from the weekly challenges, when you send in your weekly weigh-in number. But remember, you only get the point if you come back and comment on the specific WC. By the way, those challenges are good until the end of the competition. If you ever complete them, go back and comment and you will get the point.
Also, for those sending pictures, please type out the number on your scale in your email as well, just to make sure I know, you know. You know?
WEEK 3 CHALLENGE:
1 POINT- Learn about the amazing benefits of daily stretching and being limber. Read this article, or an article of your choosing (must provide link) on the benefits of stretching.
1 POINT- Stretch for 15 minutes, daily.
1 POINT- What motivates you to eat right? What is your motivation for, or during exercise? Write a post about your motivational strategies, and inspire the rest of us!
You guys are doing awesome!

I like your article but here is one that I also find helpful. It tells you exactly how far to go with stretching. I also like all the diagrams of stretches you can do and what muscles they work.

I am a massage therapist. I know the benefits of stretching. I can't tell you how many times I have worked on someone that is experiencing a lot of pain because they have forgotten the most important part of their workout, stretching. The deep breathing while stretching is also just as important as the stretching itself. It delivers the oxygen the muscle need to break down any lactic acid build up from working the muscles. I hope you like the link. Have a great week everyone.

Thanks Amy! I agree, I am a HUGE YOGA fan. But I figured I shouldn't impose my favorites on everyone else... :)
ReplyDeleteI go in phases- I am really good at stretching and then other times I finish my workout and I am too tired to stretch. But my favorite thing about it is the relaxation it brings. It feels so good and I can relax and bring my heart rate down. It's a great way to reduce stress.
ReplyDeletewhat motivates me?
ReplyDeleteWell, this morning I was frantically looking all over for my darned treadmill key. I was so frustrated with my children who obviously took it to play with. I only have so much time to exercise in the morning before all the demaands of the day take over and my time was fading fast while I was searching under couches and all the usual places. Then I looked up and saw there on the kitchen counter was my treadmill key, righ next to the cookies that I was asked to bake yesterday for a church thing. I thought it was terribly ironic that it was sitting right next to my mortal enemy, but I also realized that it all came down to a choice. I could choose to start my day on the tread or I could start the day by sitting in a corner before my kids got up and eating all the last cookies...and no one would know or see me!!! Choice. Just a choice. I think that is one of the major things that motivates me. I made a choice that I wanted to do this for me. A choice to be healthy. A choice to fit in clothes again. A choice to be happy. Once I make a choice, I stick to it especially because it is very important to me to choose the right. Long story short, I got on the treadmill and put the cookies out of sight.
This contest has motivated me again. More than the contest it's all of you that keep me going. I've loved reading all of your intro's and all the things that motivate each of you. It's nice to know that were all in this together and who ever the lucky person to win the $ is, we all will be winners. We are making positive changes in our lives that will bring us life long health and happiness. Never give up and keep on moving forward.
ReplyDeleteI read this article about stretching and didn't realize how long I was supposed to be holding it. I think this week I am going to try out several of the differnt types of stretches and see if I feel more relaxed throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteMotivation...I think many of us struggle with this for eating and exercising. One of my favorite ways to stay motivated is keeping a good log on my diet website startyourdiet.com. It it packed full of graphs, charts, comparisons, and other visuals that you can watch change each day and week. I love watching the daily fiber and protein bars light up green when I'm having a great day. I enjoy seeing the weight graph estimate my final goal day by my daily % loss.
ReplyDeleteAnother great motivator for me would be Michael. He and I struggle with the same sort of dieting issues (I guess we both cave in at the same time too :) He continues to encourage me and remind me of how good I'll feel when I've completed the workout or a good tracked day or lose a pound or two. Having a great buddy definitely helps.
